Normally I wouldn’t write about someone else’s paycheck, but since I’ve been in retail before and I’ve been a vendor in several other booth type resale stores, today’s news is exciting to me. As the owner of a furniture consignment store I’m privy to all types of opinions, both good and bad, on how things were at other vendor’s retail shops. I hear the bemoaning of furniture sales people who complain about the additional fees for credit cards, consistent discounts given, and of course high monthly booth fees. With our new vendor options. we’ve created solutions that allow our vendors to thrive in our open concept environment.
Feedback has been very positive for our Orange Park location. When customers walk through we typically hear, “There is so much great stuff here!”, “Orange Park really needs a store like this!”, “Everything looks so much better here. It seems very high quality.”, and “You have something for everyone and every budget. I’m telling my friends.” Clearly this is music to our ears. That said, the proof is in the pudding and we aren’t here just to have fun (although, really we don’t feel like we are working when we are in the shop). Money is what most of our vendors are there for. While Linen & Rust is my business, everything in it for sale, is theirs.
This is why I’m so happy to say that we had seven vendors that had checks in excess of $1000 (after splits). We had two vendors who had checks in excess of $2000 (after splits). I remember the last store that I was in, they excitedly announced that they had their first vendor break the $1000/mo split. They had been open for almost 3 years, where this is our first month in business. It makes me very proud to help local business to grow and to help the men and women who produce most of the products in our store actually create strong enough sales to make a difference in their lives.
This first month had it’s fair share of challenges but all in all we are very proud of what we have started to build and see a bright future ahead as more and more people learn we are here!
